After several weeks of biking on the trainer, I was itching to get outside for a workout. Chicago had about 10 inches of snow on Thursday. I saw the Park District plowing the lakefront path on my way to work today, so I decided to go for a ride afterwork. I took my CX bike out tonight and had a blast. The path wasn’t icy, rather snowy and a little slushy. Perfect weather to force you to ride easy (which I was suppoed to do). My Maxxis Raze tires ripped through the snow with ease. The newly fallen snow was absolutely beautiful, especially under the glow of the city lights. I didn’t see any other bikes, but I ran into one of my old Universal Sole teammates, Mike Ruggio. I was laughing at how caked my drivetain became with ice and slush. Thankfully, it really didn’t affect my shifting. Then again, I mostly just rode in 1-2 gears. Nice winter weather, but I hope Jimmy the Groundhog doesn’t see his shadow tomorrow.
