One of my friends and old teammates, Todd Braje, won the Way To Cool 50k this past Saturday. Born ultramarathoner? For a guy who used to consider the track too hilly, this was a pretty impressive W for a course with 3,600 feet in elevation gain. Todd literally destroyed the field. OK, he won by 2 minutes, which isn’t THAT much over 50K, but he did out pace several previous Western States winners. And, if you’re not familiar with Western States, it’s pretty much the Boston of ultramarthons…just 100 miles, not 26.2!
By winning the Way to Cool 50K, Todd qualified for Western States, but I think he still needs to do some volunteer trail work and Stress Fracture Hill at Rock Cut needs a little work.
A big congratulations to Todd on a great race! BTW, his wife, Sopagna, is pretty fast too. She’s going for a spot on the USA Olympic team next month at Boston.
A photo of Todd and Sopagna at their wedding. I’ve
become too sensitive to use any old, embarrassing
photos of Todd. Actually, I’ve just afraid of what
he could post of me.
