Well, it was supposed to rain today, but thankfully it didn’t until later this afternoon. I was able to get in a nice endurance ride in this morning to recover from yesterday. I rode up the usual US 101 route and was amazed at the number of cyclists headed south on their group rides. Wow! This makes Chicago’s #s look small. However, the big difference were the number of triathletes. I couldn’t believe how many groups had triathletes riding in aerobars in a pack. Yikes! Maybe I’ve seen too many fixies, rollerbladers, triathletes, and uncontrolled toddlers trying to mix on the lakefront path.
I had a good tailwind on the way out, but the headwind on the way home made it hard to keep things easy. I was surprised that my legs were too fried after over 80 miles at tempo yesterday. I didn’t think my fitness was that good this time of year, but I could be wrong. Still, I don’t evaluate how I’m doing until we start racing outdoors in another few weeks.
